Art Classes

Teaching approach
I believe in recognizing the styles and concerns of the individual student, taking the time to understand each artists personal agenda and adopting an approach that would best suit their unique needs. Some learners prefer to follow a rigid, academic approach, while others prefer to experiment and enjoy a more organic journey. I am more than happy to cover all approaches as I combine both in my own work. Also having worked in many mediums in my 28 years of exploring Fine Art I have accumulated a broad knowledge base. The classes are small so as to accommodate individual attention. I promote a relaxed studio atmosphere where students can learn from each other as well as myself.

Who should attend?
I welcome learners who have never picked up a brush to artists and hardened students. The advantages for artists to learn from one another is vast and I find it very beneficial to include all stages of development in one group. My classes are best suited to young to mature adults.

Where and when are the classes held?
I teach from the Breathing Space (opposite the KZNSA Gallery, 191 Bulwer Road, Glenwood). My classes are held on Thursday and Friday morning.

Mediums taught
Most who attend my classes either draw or paint but I can easily adapt to teaching in other mediums, most of which I have worked in over the 23 years that I have been a practicing artist.

Materials
Prior to the classes, I will advise the individual what materials they need to purchase according to materials they may already have and which medium they want to explore. I have a list of shops where art materials can be purchased and access to suppliers of affordable artists grade canvases and easels.
